LGBTQIA+ 101 Students

 

The LGBTQIA+ 101 training is a 1/2 hours comprehensive introduction to LGBTQIA+ issues tailored to the knowledge level, and age of the groups. We will: 

-Address key LGBTQIA+ concepts and binaries

-Learn about LGBTQIA+ identities, terminology, and pronouns

-Practice active listening skills

-Share information about coming out and how to provide support to someone who is coming out

-Share LGBTQIA+ resources to be used on and off campus

-Tips on how to be an active LGBTQIA+ ally

for Faculty & staff

This is a two hour training for faculty & staff in which we will share basic concepts, fem/mentorship tools, and teaching practices about: 

-Key LGBTQIA+ concepts and binaries

-Learning about LGBTQIA+ identities and use of pronouns

-Providing information about coming out and how to provide support to a student/someone who is coming out

-Strategies to guide participants through "sensitive" conversations & discussing mandatory reporting

-Providing LGBTQIA+ resources to include in your syllabi, office spaces, programing, etc. 

-Outlining ways you can actively support LGBTQIA+ individuals on campus

The LGBTQIA+ 101 trainings for professionals are are available for either one or two hours in length and are specifically tailored to the age and knowledge level of the group. The primary goal of these trainings is to provide a comprehensive introduction to LGBTQIA+ issues by:

-Addressing key LGBTQIA+ concepts and binaries

-Learning about LGBTQIA+ identities, terminology, and pronouns

-Providing information about coming out and how to provide support to someone who is coming out

-Discussing ways to create a more inclusive work place & how to support your patients/patrons

-Providing further LGBTQIA+ resources online & ways to stay involved

Ally Training

The LGBTQIA+ Ally Trainings are interactive three- four hour workshops created to provide concrete tools, real life scenarios, and information about LGBTQIA+ identities to help participants become active allies to the LGBTQIA+ communities through:

-Creating community and Brave Spaces

-Increasing awareness of internalized and implicit homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, and aphobia.

-Providing skills and tactics for bystander intervention

-Discussing the importance of intersectionality

-Addressing privileges and oppressions

-Increasing communication and active listening skills to become a better ally

-Becoming informed about LGBTQIA+ Resources

TRANS 101

 

The TRANS 101 trainings are available for either one or two hours in length. The primary goal of the TRANS 101 trainings is to focus on transgender and gender non-conforming identities, terminology and resources through:

-Addressing biases and comfort levels with transgender individuals and terminology

-Working on active listening

-Teaching participants transgender terminology

-Addressing the importance of pronouns

-Providing information about transgender resources

-Giving tips on how to be an active trans ally

Addressing Normativity

The Addressing Normativity workshop is a 2-3 hour interactive workshop that guides participants through breaking down concepts such as: heteronormativity, cisnormativity, homonormativity, hegemonic & gender roles/gender norms. In addition to the following goals:

-Understanding intersectionality, privileges and oppressions

-Discussing learned biases around “dating preferences”

-Learning about the dangerous impact of “preferences” and stereotypes

-Discussing In-Group conflicts within the LGBTQIA+ communities
